Why Irlen?
The Irlen Method is the only research-based method using coloured overlays and filters in the traditional optical method of the comparison of matched pairs of lenses.
Irlen lenses work in all light conditions and can be worn continuously throughout the day in all lighting conditions working to reduce stress and stabilise messages within the brain.

The basis of Irlen Syndrome is light sensitivity and a corresponding inability to cope with black/white contrast. The Irlen method includes a range of neutral density filters from across the spectrum, which can be added to colours reducing glare and eyestrain further.
Irlen can add specific frequencies to cope with fluorescent light and VDU whiteboards. An Irlen tinting session filters a narrow band/s of light so that Irlen lenses do not affect colour vision; at the end of lens evaluation the lenses will provide the same result as an overlay but the page will still appear white, colour sense is unchanged or improved. This is a different result and effect from other systems claiming to treat Irlen Syndrome.
Opticians and organisations other than Irlen Clinics have no connection with Helen Irlen or the Irlen Institute and do not use the Irlen Method.

Daniel Amen MD

Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. Dr. Amen is a nationally recognized expert in the fields of the brain and behaviour and brain imaging. "For the past 10 years, my clinics have screened all of our patients for Irlen Syndrome and our patients have successfully used Irlen Filters to alleviate many symptoms, including headaches, learning and reading problems, light sensitivity, and depth perception issues. In performing before and after scans with the Irlen Filters as the only intervention, we have seen the brain become significantly more balanced"
Case Study:
Robert
Robert was diagnosed with Aspergers syndrome aged 11. Robert was formerly educated in mainstream school. Robert experienced typical difficulties and of Aspergers’s syndrome in mainstream school.
